The resonator consists of an inner cylinder made of silicon carbide symmetrically located inside an outer cylindrical, tube shaped waveguide. Several fundamental TE modes were identified over the range 9 to 17 GHz through measurements of the resonant frequencies and the associated quality factors. Mode discrimination is achieved both by exploring selective ohmic effects and examining the electrodynamical properties of the coaxial cylindrical waveguide. The effectiveness of a silicon carbide coaxial insert in providing ohmic mode selection is demonstrated in that the total Q factors of TE(mp) modes with radial index p greater-than-or-equal-to 2 become well below the quality factors for surface TE(ml) modes. It has been verified that both structure and number of resonant modes are strongly dependent on the diameter and the resistivity of the coaxial insert. %8 Oct %N 10 %T Ohmic selection in open coaxial resonators - an experimental-study %@secondarytype PRE PI %K ohmic selective, resonators. %@group LAP-INPE-MCT-BR %@group LAP-INPE-MCT-BR %@group LAP-INPE-MCT-BR %@secondarykey INPE-13734-PRE/8924 %@copyholder SID/SCD %@issn 0195-9271 %2 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m16@80/2006/05.18.13.27.52 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@project Tecnologia de plasma: fontes de microondas de alta potência %B International Journal of Infrared and Millimeter Waves %P 2191-2201 %4 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m16@80/2006/05.18.13.27 %D 1993 %V 14 %A Castro, Pedro José de, %A Barroso, Joaquim José, %A Correa, R.
