One of these issues is related to the statistical properties of the CMB temperature fluctuations. We analysed here the WMAP data and found that the distribution of the CMB temperature fluctuations PCMB(¦¤T) can be quite well fitted by the anomalous temperature distribution emerging within non-extensive statistical mechanics. This theory is based on the non-extensive entropy , with the Boltzmann¨CGibbs expression as the limit case q¡ú1. For the frequencies investigated (¦Í=40.7, 60.8, and 93.5 GHz), we found that PCMB(¦¤T) is well described by Pq(¦¤T)1/[1+(q−1)B(¦Í)¦¤T2]1/(q−1), with q=1.045¡À0.005, which indicate, at the 99% confidence level, that Gaussian temperature distributions PGauss(¦¤T)e−B(¦Í)¦¤T2, corresponding to the q¡ú1 limit, do not properly represent the CMB temperature fluctuations measured by WMAP. %8 Aug. %N 6 %T Temperature fluctuations of the cosmic microwave background radiation: A case of non-extensivity? %@secondarytype PRE PI %K Cosmic background radiation: Temperature fluctuations, Non-extensive statistical mechanics, Non-Gaussian distributions. %@group DAS-INPE-MCT-BR %@group %@group DAS-INPE-MCT-BR %@copyholder SID/SCD %@secondarykey INPE-13921--PRE/9101 %@issn 0375-9601 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais, Divisã, %@affiliation o de Astrof¨ªsica (INPE.DAS) %@affiliation Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas F¨ªsicas %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais, Divisã, %@affiliation o de Astrof¨ªsica (INPE.DAS) %P 426-430 %D 2006 %V 356 %A Bernui, Armando, %A Tsallis, Constantino, %A Villela, Thyrso, %@area CEA
