Our calculations exhibit some similar features for both two- and three-dimensional models, namely the conductance peaks before the fundamental eigenenergy of the quantum wire that represents the sidearms and the zero conductance dip. Despite this, we show that, in general, the conductance and the electronic wave function are strongly affected when the third spatial dimension is taken into account. In other words, we prove that two-dimensional models are not suitable for representing this kind of system. %8 June %N 2A %T Conductance of three-dimensional cross junctions in the quantum ballistic regime %@electronicmailaddress %@electronicmailaddress erasmo@las.inpe.br %K influence of dimensionality, conductance, effective mass approximation. %@secondarytype PRE PN %@archivingpolicy denypublisher denyfinaldraft12 %@usergroup administrator %@usergroup marciana %@usergroup simone %@group %@group LAS-INPE-MCT-BR %@secondarykey INPE--PRE/ %U http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0103-97332006000300036 %@issn 0103-9733 %2 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m16@80/2006/08.03.13.40.05 %@affiliation Instituto de Estudos Avançados - IEAv - CTA %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais, Laboratório Associado de Sensores e Materiais (INPE.LAS) %B Brazilian Journal of Physics %@versiontype publisher %P 369-371 %4 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m16@80/2006/08.03.13.40 %@documentstage not transferred %D 2006 %V 36 %@doi 10.1590/S0103-97332006000300036 %A Dacal, Luis C.
